With a lot of stocked materials in their basement, our clients in Longueuil were worried about a crack in their foundation wall, where water used to trickle down during heavy rain and during the snow-melt.
Small crack in the foundation wall
Even small cracks, such as the one in this picture, can be a problem. Even if they do not pose an imminent threat to the foundation, water might still trickle down through them into your basement, especially after a heavy rain or the snow-melt.
Injecting the crack with polyurethane
Crack injection with polyurethane is the standard repair that many crack repair contractors do in Quebec. In order for this kind of repair to work well, the ports need to be inserted all the way to the middle of the crack in your basement wall. Once the polyurethane starts oozing out from one or both sides of the wall (if the outside is visible), the repair should be good.
Repairing a crack permanently in Longueuil
Injecting a crack with polyurethan might not always be the best solution, as polyurethane has an elasticity of up to 20%, meaning that if a crack widens more than that, water might infiltrate the crack again.
Our solution is to implement the FlexiSpan solution, which consists in applying a strip of flexible and porous foam over the crack, and finally sealing it with another membrane. FlexiSpan-repaired cracks can't leak or reopen and they are permanently protected!
