Photo Album: Basement Waterproofing in the Town of Mount Royal
Water infiltration in a basement is always a big problem. When water comes in, it causes a lot of damage especially to organic materials such as wood. Our clients in TMR had water infiltration happen slowly over a long period of time, and they noticed it later after much of the damage had been done, such as ruined wall studs, damaged gyprock, mold in the basement.
Our crew quickly took action and waterproofed the space and installed a sump pump, as a back up if any water gets back into the space.
Water infiltration in a basement in TMR
You can clearly see the damages caused by the water infiltration, which is mostly visible in the lower part of the wall frame. Most of the water infiltration in this TMR basement happened at the foundation wall/footing joint. You can also see the sign of humidity passing through the wall around a foot above the slab level, as seen in the white efflorescence that remained on the wall.
Wood frame and gyprock damaged by water
Finishing a basement with organic materials is always a bad thing. Gyprock and wood are both organic, and with water and humidity in this basement in Mount Royal Town, it was a matter of time before mold would develop.
Efflorescence on the foundation walls in TMR
Another picture showing efflorescence on the foundation walls, which are the minerals left over after the water on the wall dries up. Efflorescence is not dangerous but it's the best sign of water or humidity coming in.
Water flood in TMR
During the work, water infiltration might still be happening. We could still do the work by installing a temporary floor pump.
Sealing the basement walls
Clearly our clients had humidity pass through their basement walls. This raised the humidity levels in their basement and damaged the wood frames and gyprock. We installed our ThermalDry waterproofing membrane which not only stops humidity from dissipating into the basement, but also could lead any water infiltration down to the WaterGuard. ThermalDry also reflects the heat back into the basement.
Alternative to the French Drain in the Town of Mount Royal, Quebec
Our clients had a French Drain, which eventually failed and let water in. French drains get clogged with time and need a lot of maintenance, especially if the filter around the drain is clogged. Our internal footing drain WaterGuard never gets clogged, we are so confident in its effectiveness that we will offer you a lifetime warranty against water on your slab.
Sump pump installation in TMR
Many basements in the Town of Mount Royal have underground water infiltration problems, and need a sump pump. Our SuperSump not only helps discharge the internal drain, but also helps in lowering the water level in the soil under the slab. (PS: the final connection of the sump pump had not been done at this stage).
