Photo Album: Foundation settlement repair in Deux-Montagnes
After living there for 50 years, the owner of this house in Deux-Montagnes had suffered the results of the collapse of her floor; its gyprock walls upstairs were continually cracking and its doors and windows were stuck.
The beam and columns / walls in blocks did not support all the weight from above. Wanting to sell her house, she wanted to fix the problem for good in order to have the best value for sale.
She found our innovative floor support systems on the internet, and called us to fix her problem of floor slippage once and for all!
Cracks in the cement blocks - a bad sign
The cracks in the cement blocks worried our client too much. She had the signs of inner sagging that she could see in the gyprock walls, but also these signs of the outside of the house.
Wooden columns as floor support
In part, the floor of this house at Deux-Montagne was supported with wooden columns, some of which were completely outside the house exposing them to environmental factors such as rain etc.
Wooden columns on the North Shore of Montreal
In part, these beams, joists and wooden columns supported the balcony. Although they were installed in a closed space such as a crawl space, they were continually exposed to moisture, which would have weakened the wood and compromised its ability to provide good support for the floor above.

The Weight Calculator by SupportWorks, and designed by their geotechnical engineers, allows us to accurately calculate the number of support columns to provide the best protection for our customers.
Adjustable steel posts
To solve the floor sill problem, we installed SmartJack steel posts. The big difference between the SmartJack and the steel posts that you find in Quebec hardware stores are that the SmartJack are galvanized (do not rust) and that they support very large loads exceeding 50 thousand pounds!
Installation of SmartJack poles
A very important element for the installation of SmartJack poles is their engineering base. The geotechnical engineers and the manufacturers of this product, have trained our teams to install the best engineering base for the posts (seen under the post), allowing to dissipate up to 90% the weight that supports the pole.
