Photo Album: Stabilization of a crawl space in Saint-Anicet
If your floor begins to sag, and you feel the floor bouncing under your feet, the crawl space support beams may be the cause.
This was the case of this customer. That's why our foundation specialist Andrew went for an inspection. He recommended the installation of 6 SmartJack supports.
The SmartJack is a support beam designed by engineers that adjusts to the exact height between the solid base and the support beam at the top. Heavy-duty steel beams are then adjusted to the floor to close doors and windows.
The wrong way to isolate the crawl space
This photo clearly demonstrates what not to do in a crawl space: use a 6 mil polyethylene membrane, use fiberglass, and stick the insulation panels to damp walls.
Beginning of work
The soil had to be removed from the area in which the pillar needs to be sunk. To do this, the specialists must break the cement in the basement and dig the earth to get to the footing of the foundation.
Installing the support Columns SmartJacks columns
These are installed with a base specially designed to absorb the weight of the house to minimize sagging.
SmartJacks Installed
In this case, since the beam was in a bad state, a metal plate is installed above the column.
End of work
Once the pillar had been driven down to the bedrock, the weight of the house had been transferred through the support pillar, in order to lift the foundation and stabilize the house permanently.
