High relative humidity cause many bad things in your crawl space, and there are few things that cause high relative humidity: Leaking groundwater through the crawl space walls, exposed earth on the floor or open vents to the outside. Pedestal sump pumps often lack the power needed to pump out large quantities of water during a storm. Therefore, if a rain storm drops a large volume of water in your area, a pedestal sump pump may not be able to pump out the water fast enough to keep your basement from flooding.
