Photo Album: Stabilization of a foundation in SAINT-CONSTANT, Qc
The problem
Mr. Raymond had an urgent problem and needed to stabilize one of the foundation walls. The block foundation wall had a long horizontal crack in the middle an inch wide and the wall was dangerously curved.
The solution
- Install wall anchors
To solve our client's problem, we had put a wall anchoring system on the cracked and arched wall. Once the anchors are tight, they hold the wall securely in its current position. Over time, the anchors can be tightened allowing the wall to straighten.

Another glimpse of the cracked foundation wall
Here is another preview of the foundation wall having a 1 '' wide long horizontal crack.
Explanation of the anchoring system
The wall that has problems is this one seen from the outside. We will install a wall anchoring system to stabilize it. We dig a few feet outside to install a plate there, then we install a second plate on the cracked wall inside. The two plates are connected by a galvanized steel rod that passes through the foundation wall. We tighten the anchors to stabilize the wall.
Inner steel plate
We installed 4 plates like this on the interior foundation wall.
Another plate installed
The anchoring system can be tightened over time to straighten the wall.
Outer plate
A plate is placed outside in the ground and connected to the inner plate by a galvanized steel rod.

The plate is placed a few feet into the compacted soil.
