Installation of Indoor French drain in Sainte-Geneviève, Qc
Challenge
We conducted an inspection for a customer in Sainte-Geneviève who was experiencing water problems in the basement. When our specialist visited his home, he found several problems.
Water seeped into the house at the foot of the foundation (joint between the wall and the footing). Some concrete walls were very damp in some places. There was a significant difference between the places where the concrete was dry and where it was wet.
The client has a chimney in his basement and it could be seen that the slab was wet all around the chimney and the water went from the chimney to the wall in a straight line, which created a demarcation on the slab.
In addition, the sump pump was installed in a sump hole that was not sealed. Dirt penetrated and moisture escaped.
It was impossible for the client to install an outdoor French drain because there was landscaping and a stone deck on the outside perimeter of the house where the water was seeping. Excavation was a solution that was out of the question.
We were therefore very happy to announce to the client that we had an indoor drain solution that would solve the problem of infiltration of water in the basement more efficiently than an old French outdoor drain system.
Solution
In order to solve the problem and make all the basement dry at all times, our specialist recommended a complete waterproofing solution.
Our team installed the ThermalDry wall system designed for people who may want to completely finish the basement. It is a plastic vapor barrier with bubbles that creates a thermal break and spaces to drain water while preventing water vapor from entering the basement. The other aluminum side reflects heat to the basement to save energy.
Subsequently, we installed our 160-foot WaterGuard indoor drain system, to prevent water infiltration from entering the living space of the basement. Water is intercepted at the point of entry, whether from the floor under the slab, at the joint between the wall and the footing or through cracks in the concrete wall.
In order to eliminate the water effectively, we installed the TripleSafe system which provides triple protection. Three sump pumps, one of which is battery-backed, in an airtight and watertight coating, to drain water away from home.
IceGuard and LawnScape accessories are added to the drainpipes to provide additional protection. Even if the pipe freezes in winter, water can escape through the IceGuard. LawnScape prevents bugs or mud from entering the water drain pipe and plugging it to prevent the hose from being bailed out.
