Waterproofing an Apartment Basement in Richmond, QC
Challenge
A Richmond client was purchasing a house that was experiencing a water problem and wanted to solve the problem before owning the house a few months later. He sent us the following request: "Hello, I would like to have a quote to know how much it would cost to install a French drain, window sinks on 6 windows and waterproofing the foundation from the outside as well and the insulation of the foundation walls from the outside, I would like to know how much it will cost and if you offer financing options. "
In order to answer all these questions, we sent one of our basement waterproofing specialists who did a complete analysis of the basement and the problem to recommend the best solution, taking into consideration what is necessary to be done and the budget of our client. Of course, we have financing options to help our customers make the renovations they want and solve the problem at its source.
During their meeting, the client told the specialist that the problem has been present for a long time according to the previous owners and that during heavy rains, the water infiltrates was worse and puddles formed in the basement. The client planned to complete the basement in the near future and was hoping to have a completely dry basement to avoid future problems.
Solution
Our installation team led by our supervisor, Sébastien, went to the customer to begin the work. Our team started by cutting the bottom of the wall affected by the water infiltration. They then dug a trench on the perimeter in order to install 122 feet of WaterGuard interior drain. It's an equivalent of an outdoor French drain but has a lot more advantages because it's a modern product specifically designed for basements. We added 4 inspection ports to perform system checks to ensure that it will never clog. In addition, we set up the staircase near the door and around the water heater, the TrenchDrain floor drain that collects water from a plumbing debate. It redirects the water to the inner drain.
In order to drain the water, the WaterGuard Indoor Drain is connected to a SuperSump Sump Pump System which is designed to intercept water that comes from the ground and the drain while being watertight. It does not let the water vapor escape and humidify the space.
Our team also installed the CleanSpace vapor barrier membrane, which prevents water vapor from passing through the foundation walls and humidifying the basement. The CleanSpace membrane prevents the formation of mold to keep the subsoil environment healthy and dry.
Finally, we installed accessories to protect the water discharge line. The IceGuard allows water to come out even if the pipe freezes in the winter and the LawnScape allows the water to come out without the pipe clogging at the end with sediment, cats or small animals.
We are very proud of this beautiful project and are happy to have made another basement dry and finished safely.
