- Waterproofing and stabilization of foundations in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures
Challenge
Our client from Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures contacted us because she wanted to solve her foundation problem that threatened the house. She found that one of its foundations had a long, deep crack on the outside. From the inside, she noticed that the wall was bulging inward. This is often a sign of weak foundation walls that requires an effective and permanent solution. When soil pushes on the foundation walls, the pressure exerted causes curvature of the foundation wall.
To resolve the problem, our foundation specialist visited our customer's home to perform a deep and comprehensive inspection of the foundation problem. He analyzed the problem and explained to the client what was causing the problem and what needed to be done to fix the problem at its source.
Solution
Our specialist therefore recommended excavation work to waterproof and stabilize the foundations.
We therefore installed an exterior drain to intercept the water at the foot of the foundation. Next, we installed the SentrySeal and SilverGlo combination. SentrySeal is an exterior waterproofing membrane specially designed for installation on exterior walls. SilverGlo insulation is then installed to provide strength and combat the changes in temperature and humidity that affect the foundation.
We also stabilized the walls by installing SmartJack joist reinforcement posts, as well as PowerBrace wall support beams.
The SmartJack XL system lifts and stabilizes beams and joists to transfer the weight of the house to a competent layer of soil that can support the load without moving. SmartJacks pillars can support loads of over 60,000 lbs. They are made of galvanized steel and offer immediate stabilization. It is a material that does not oxidize, rust or damage.
The PowerBrace system is a patented system that permanently stabilizes foundation walls. Zinc plated steel beams are installed flush with the wall and anchored to the floor and joists for attachment. This system can be tightened as your walls straighten back to their original position.
