Waterproofing of a basement in Shannon, Qc.
Challenge
A resident of Shannon contacted us in 2014 to have his basement inspected in which he had a sump hole and water seepage. The way the old system was installed was not optimal. When the specialist came to the appointment, he asked the client several questions in order to understand the situation. The client stated that he has lived in this residence for several years. The problem appeared 2 months after the move and he has been considering the possibilities of a repair and a waterproofing solution for 5 years now.
The customer's ultimate goal is to finish the basement, but as long as the basement is at risk, it is not possible to install floor and wall covering. Once the work is completed, the client wants the warranty to be applicable to future buyers of the home when the time comes to sell it.
Thus, following the discussion, the client and our specialist were able to establish a list of characteristics for the waterproofing system to be installed.
Solution
A few weeks later, our production team began work.
First, we installed an interior drain system at the foot of the foundation wall by digging a trench, which will receive the specially designed WaterGuard interior drain. The joint between the wall and the footing is the place most often affected by water infiltration due to the pressure exerted by the water on the foundation.
Once the drain is installed around the perimeter of the foundation in the basement, we installed the CleanSpace vapor barrier membrane. CleanSpace is a membrane that waterproofs walls by preventing vapors from passing through and humidifying the space while helping water to flow to the drain.
Subsequently, the interior drain is connected to a sump pump system chosen from our product line. The TripleSafe is the system that was chosen in this case in order to meet all the efficiency criteria to solve the waterproofing problem at this customer. The TripleSafe contains 3 pumps which operate according to the level, flow rate and volume of incoming water. One of the pumps is a back-up sump pump that is battery powered to operate during storms and power outages. Water that comes from the ground and that is intercepted by the drain is automatically evacuated by the pump far from the house.
Finally, to prepare the basement to be finished, we insulated the walls with our beautiful insulation panels. The panel contains SilverGlo insulation which is infused with graphite particles to increase the insulation value while lowering thermal conductivity. B2B panels do not contain wood. Metal studs allow panels to be attached to walls, eliminating the need for conventional studs and framing and fiberglass insulation.
This product combination allows the customer to finish the basement without the risk of future water damage while effectively insulating the basement.
We are happy to have been able to complete this project and to have made another basement completely dry at all times!
