Water infiltration problems in a basement in Longueil
Challenge
While purchasing their new home located at 356 Rue Saint-Sylvestre, Mina was informed that there were water infiltration problems in the basement of the residence.
Actually, the water seeped in at the wall level as well as through certain critical areas of the concrete slab.
Even though Mina had been informed of the infiltration problem in the basement, she quickly realized the high amount of water infiltration and the stress that this could cause. The water infiltrated once a month, in several places and in fairly good quantities. During the first two months in the residence, the couple understood the amount of the problem and the urgency to act, if they wanted to protect their investment.
At some point, the owner even noticed the presence of mold near the sink in the basement bathroom. Mold can sometimes be a threat to health, it can also give off unpleasant odors, not to mention the fact that it attacks anything organic such as Wooden furniture, frames, wooden floors, etc
Mina wanted to renew the basement of the residence and it was, therefore, wiser for her to target the problem at the source and waterproof her basement once and for all.
After making the decision to start with the waterproofing, Mrs. Takla consulted several companies and specialists for the implementation of the work. Among these experts, was Cesar Guevara, a specialist from Systèmes Sous-Sol Québec who has traveled free of charge to inspect her residence.
Solution
Following the 1.5 hour inspection of the owners' basement, Cesar Guevara showed Mina what was her waterproofing problem how he could help fix it. Mina was delighted because they were able to put images of the problem and the solutions available to her, thanks to software specially designed by the company. Mina then decided to do business with Système Sous-Sol Québec for the waterproofing work.
A few days later, a team came to Ms. Takla's to start the work. The team proceeded with the installation of an interior foundation drain system called WaterGuard.
To do this, they had to dig a trench about 6 inches, along 4 walls, in the basement slab. Next, they placed rock at the bottom of the hole, to lay the WaterGuard drain lengths there. Once placed they direct the flow of water towards the “TripleSafe” pump system which was installed. This pump system then evacuates the water to the outside of the house. In addition, a FlexiSpan membrane, specially designed to act as an elastic barrier, was affixed on the basement walls to close the cracks and make the latter completely waterproof and dry.
