With each heavy rain and during the thaw season, water seeps into the basement of this house built in the 1950s. Renters had up to 2 inches of water which damaged everything from the objects installed in the basement. The owners then had to have a permanent solution to protect their basement and rent it as living space.

French Drain?

With a house that dates back to the 50s, we were not sure if a French drain existed. However, with the lack of space around the house and the cost of excavating and remaking asphalt, installing a French drain from the outside was not recommended.

Tenants in the basement used this space not just to live there, but also to store equipment. You can see the presence of efflorescence on the poorly made slab.

Concrete slab pegged in an inappropriate way

On rare occasions we find slabs hitched to jogging, which is not ideal. The solution in these cases is to dig a trench a few inches, to lay our inner drain the "WaterGuard" under the slab, docked to the jogging, and install a waterproofing membrane that mounts on the wall of the foundation and directs the water to the WaterGuard .
