Failure of foundation walls in Sorel-Tracy
Challenge
We were fortunate enough to bid on a client whose home had a serious problem of failure in the basement foundation walls. The client told us that his wall is curved, cracked and he has noticed some crumbling. We booked an appointment with our specialist. Following their conversation, the specialist learned that the house was built in 1967, but that the client resides there only since 2008. It is only recently that he actually found that he has a problem of structure and this has worried him greatly. Therefore, our specialist recommended the best quality / price solution with a guarantee for the whole life of the house.
Solution
Thus, the specialist recommended the installation of GeoLock (anchorage), PowerBrace (galvanized steel beams) and SilverGlo (insulation) systems. Supportworks PowerBrace Galvanized Steel Beams are beams installed along the height of the wall and anchored to the concrete floor and wood joists on the ceiling. This system is specifically designed to support the curving foundation walls to bring them back to the original position over time by tightening the system. 8 beams were installed.
We also installed GeoLock wall anchors. This system is very powerful, but you must have space around your house. It consists of galvanized steel anchors installed in the ground a few meters from your foundations. The anchors are then connected to steel plates by steel rods. This system can easily be tightened during dry seasons, which improve and straighten the wall over time. This system is very versatile because it is used to stabilize various problems of faulty walls such as curved walls, walls that bend or slide down. It can be installed around obstacles such as ducts, piping, etc. Its installation is done quickly and without disturbing your space.
Finally, to complete the solution, the specialist recommended the installation of SilverGlo insulation panels. These panels are composed of expanded polystyrene with infused graphite. The small graphite particles reflect the heat and decrease the conductivity of the material to obtain a higher R-value per well so that the subsoil is now stable and isolated and can be used for useful purposes without the owner being worried about the risks.
