PowerBrace beams to stabilize a foundation wall in Gatineau, Qc
Challenge
Mr. Charlebois had had only one of his foundation walls repaired before, and for the past 2 years, a horizontal, stair-shaped crack has appeared on one of the block foundation walls. Quietly, the wall began to tilt towards the interior of the basement.
Block or stone foundation walls are more fragile than others. With the pressure from the ground, the wall can arch and tilt inward causing a serious problem to the foundation. Cracks are often the cause of foundation subsidence.
Mr. Charlebois noticed that the situation of his wall was worsening over time and he wanted to protect his basement.
Solution
Mr. Charlebois contacted Systèmes Sous-sol Québec in order to have a permanent solution to his problem.
Our solution was to put 5 PowerBrace beams on the tilting wall. Our experts secured the top of the joists to the floor joists, placed the joists against the wall, anchored the bottom of the joists to the floor and then tightened them. These patented beams will strengthen and support the wall and will allow potential straightening of the wall over time.
With this permanent solution, our client will have nothing worry about his foundation wall.
