Solidifying foundation walls in Sainte-Mélanie, Qc
Challenge
There were disturbing cracks in the foundation walls of Mr. Millette's house. He wanted to strengthen and solidify the foundation of his house in order to avoid bigger problems. As he removed all of his drywall in the basement, he found that two foundation walls were starting to slope inwardly of the house and that a long horizontal crack had formed in the middle of the walls.
In fact, the foundation walls of Mr. Millette's house could not endure the pressure of the soil. And because of it, they started to arch inward.
He was worried that the situation would get worse and that the walls would sink deeper.
Solution
Mr. Millette contacted Systèmes Sous-sol Québec in order to solidify and strengthen its foundation walls quickly.
The solution for our client was the installation of 8 PowerBrace beams as well as the CarbonArmor reinforcement device.
PowerBrace beams are a patented galvanized steel device designed to support foundation walls. With a clamping device, they allow potential straightening of the walls over time. It is a permanent and reliable solution.
The CarbonArmor device was applied to reinforce the two cracked and slightly arched walls. It is the only carbon fiber fabric product conforming to the ACI (American Concrete Institute) code. Stronger than concrete and stronger than steel, it is specifically designed for basement walls.
With this solution, Mr. Millette has foundation walls that will not budge.
