Challenge

Unsettling signs of wear on a house foundation—multiple cracks visible from the inside. The cracks were vertical and "stair-step". Besides, there was one crack where three finger could fit.

Solution

The solution we recommended was the installation of six GeoLock Wall Anchor System—a stellar approach to stabilizing foundations precisely and robustly. By connecting these anchors with steel rods to wall plates on the inside of the foundation walls, we can counteract pressure and prevent further movement. It's a process that not only halts immediate damage but promises longevity and stability for years to come.

The first thing we noticed was the stair-step crack visible form the outside. These kinds of cracks usually occur when a portion of the foundation is straight, and another part shifts up or down. Here is when things start getting more serious as these could be an indication of a significant settlement that needs to be addressed.

Alarming crack visible from the inside. This crack indicates that the wall might be bowing inwards. Therefore, immediate action should be taken.

After small excavation of the surroundings of the foundation, we drive the galvanized steel rod through small holes in the foundation wall and attach the Geolock anchor plates.

At the end, we replace the excavated soil in order to tighten the wall anchors to the specified torque rating.
